Dear Friend,
You may have heard, HB 5, the bill banning abortion in Florida after 15 weeks with no exceptions for rape, incest, or human trafficking, was debated on the House floor last night — and passed on a party-line vote.
Abortion rights advocates descended on the Capitol yesterday to express their opposition to the ban. We must continue to get loud, express our outrage, and do everything in our power to stop this bill from reaching the Governor’s desk.
Make no mistake, this bill is extreme and it's unconscionable. Although HB 5 would be unconstitutional if signed into law today, we know Roe v. Wade is in major jeopardy of being overturned this year. And if that happens, it could mean the end of reproductive freedom in Florida.
Since HB 5 was introduced a few weeks ago, our alumni in the legislature have been on the frontlines, speaking up against this dangerous and politically-driven abortion ban. But they can’t do it alone.
That’s why Ruth’s List is committed to electing more Democratic, pro-choice women across Florida to join the fight. Please click here to support our efforts today and help protect reproductive rights in Florida.
