Welch for Vermont

Hello,

Recently, I was taking a look at an old photograph — and I noticed something.

The picture was from a hike I’d taken decades ago at Mount Rainier. It was a fun, but grueling, hike with friends and family.

And in the picture, I was wearing the same blue windbreaker that I had on while I was looking at the photo.

I’ve gotten some great wear and tear out of it through the years — from long hikes to everyday walks and everything in between — I always know I’m headed on an adventure when I pull it out of my closet. But even as I’ve hiked here in Vermont and across New England over the years, it’s hard not to notice how our environment is changing, and how the weather is getting more extreme.

The great outdoors we have access to here are extraordinary — from cross country skiing in the winter and swimming in Lake Champlain in the summer, to the incredible foliage in the fall and breathtaking views from mountaintops — and I want our future generations to have equal opportunities to explore and take advantage of all we have to offer.

A healthy environment doesn’t just provide the air we breathe and the water we drink, it supports entire industries in our state, creates recreational opportunities for families, and makes us all feel better to be outside.

It’s why I’ve made protecting the environment a top priority throughout my career in public service, it’s why I’m working so hard in the House to pass a Green New Deal, and it’s why I’m running for Senate to represent Vermont: we need to get this done, and we need to do it now.

If you can, please chip into my campaign right away. It’s going to take all of us, working together, to protect our environment and combat climate change for Vermont and for our future.
