Dear friend:
In late 2020, we at Americans United began a long and thorough process of examining our messages, brand and website, as well as what it would take to ensure AU is communicating with all the tools of the 21st century. We wanted a more modern look and feel to expand and diversify support for church-state separation.
And we also wanted to celebrate our 75th anniversary!
Now, as you see above, we have a new logo. It keeps some of our traditional AU look and feel while bringing a new, dynamic look to our brand.
We have a new tagline: Freedom Without Favor, Equality Without Exception. We want to make clear to everyone that church-state separation is about freedom and equality, and that it’s an essential pillar of our increasingly threatened democracy.
And, just in time for the most visible Supreme Court case we have had in years, we have a new website! The primary goal of the AU website is to encourage supporters (current and prospective) to learn about church-state separation, why it’s important, what’s at stake, what AU does to protect it, and how to take action to protect religious freedom for all. We also updated the content to make it more accessible and interactive for new and long-term AU supporters alike.
Branding is more than a paint job. It expresses who we are, what we stand for and who we represent. And we know you understand that AU may evolve, the face of AU may change over time, but our mission and values remain constant as we celebrate our 75th anniversary. Separation of religion and government guarantees religious freedom, a fundamental and foundational right, and allows us to live as ourselves and believe as we choose.
All of us at AU worked hard on this project; our teamwork as an organization is key to our success. A special thank you to the Communications team and our expert consultants at Teal Media with whom we’ve worked for more than a year.
I hope you agree that the new Americans United brand and website are an important step forward in recruiting and solidifying support for the crucial battles ahead.
As always, thank you for your support of AU and our more-fragile-than-ever democracy.
With hope and gratitude,
Rachel Laser
