Carolyn is a former teacher, progressive advocate, and pioneer of the rights and privileges we have today.
When funding for an ESL Program in East Harlem was cut from the budget, Carolyn went to Albany to get it back. When Carolyn told her employer she was pregnant, she was told to leave her job, but she fought to keep her job and establish affordable and accessible childcare, and thereafter passed a bill ensuring paid leave for all federal employees.
Here’s the thing about Carolyn: she does not and will not back down. As the first woman to chair the House Oversight Committee, she has fought big banks, the pharmaceutical industry, big oil, and more.
Carolyn knows that there is still more work to do. We need a Green New Deal, affordable housing, student loan forgiveness, and universal healthcare coverage — and Carolyn can and will continue to fight for all of these and more in Congress.
But for Carolyn to keep fighting, we have to make sure she stays in Congress. And that starts with all of us.
