John— This election cycle will be a critical battle to defend SEEC members, including our Vice Chair, Rep. Matt Cartwright.

Rep. Matt Cartwright represents Pennsylvania’s eighth congressional district, including President Joe Biden’s hometown of Scranton. He is one of only a handful of Democrats who won districts that Donald Trump also won.

While many swing seat Democrats are afraid to be bold on the environment, Rep. Cartwright has been a leader in fighting for common-sense, pro-environment policies that deliver for his constituents.

Rep. Cartwright knows that we don’t have to choose between a strong economy and a healthy climate. We can have both. His district is living proof of that. While historically the district had been dominated by mining, today, PA-8 has nearly 7,000 clean energy jobs. Despite what the Republicans trying to unseat Rep. Cartwright may say, this proves that clean energy is a critical job creator across the country, and Rep. Cartwright is shepherding that sustainable future for his constituents through his work in Congress.

Rep. Cartwright has been a bold fighter, but progress could be at risk if our pro-environment members don’t have the resources they need to stand up to far-right operative groups and fossil fuel interests in 2022 – and Rep. Cartwright is one of their biggest targets.
