In the first public impeachment hearing, former Ambassador Bill Taylor and Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent stood before the House Intelligence Committee and corroborated a growing mountain of evidence against Trump. In his bombshell testimony, Taylor showed without a shadow of a doubt that Trump orchestrated a bribery and extortion scheme to force Ukraine to investigate his political rival.

Taylor confirmed the crime at the center of the Ukraine scandal: That Trump bribed Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election by withholding crucial military aid in return for an investigation of Joe Biden.

Putting Trump's actions in context, Taylor told the committee:

"I wrote that withholding security assistance in exchange for help with a domestic political campaign in the US would be 'crazy.' I believed that then, and I believe it now."

That wasn't all. Throughout the day, Taylor's testimony painted a picture of a president gone rogue, exploiting Ukraine's need to protect itself from Russian aggression in order to influence the outcome of the 2020 election. Taylor and Kent's long and distinguished careers as bipartisan civil servants gave added weight to their testimonies and left Republicans with little to do or say except bicker about process.
