This is what’s happening on the ground, folks.
At a recent NC-14 candidate forum, not a single Republican was willing to call January 6th an insurrection.
Instead, terms like “legitimate political discourse” and “peaceful protest” with “a few bad actors” were thrown around. Five people died, more than 100 police officers were injured, and members of Congress feared for their lives.
There is no question January 6th was a violent insurrection – and I won’t hesitate to call it that.
I also won’t hesitate to remind folks about Madison Cawthorn’s role in the insurrection, one of the reasons I launched my candidacy for Congress to begin with.
Now that North Carolina voters are challenging Cawthorn’s eligibility to hold office, he’s warning of violence if he’s barred from running for re-election. His actions and rhetoric are dangerous.
As I’ve said time and again, Cawthorn should be disqualified from office, but if that doesn’t happen, I’m more than ready to replace him and defeat his extremist takeover attempt of North Carolina.
I’m running for Congress to create a better future for our community, one based on the values of love, hope, and empathy. Please chip in $5, $10, or whatever you can so we can pave a new path forward for Western NC – together.
In solidarity,
Jasmine
