xxxxxx,
Yesterday, GOP leadership in Georgia once again showcased their blatant disrespect for Georgia voters, Georgia lawmakers, and the rule of law.
Throughout the entire legislative session, Georgia Democrats have been following precedent, participating in an open, transparent, and community-guided process to redraw maps for the Cobb Commission and School Board.
But yesterday, GOP leadership decided to entirely disregard this process and pass their own version of the new maps, bypassing the maps crafted by the local delegation, representing the wishes and interests of Cobb County residents.
I’m disappointed, y’all, but I’m not surprised.
For years, the GOP has proven that their respect for law and order only goes so far as is beneficial to their own pursuit of power and control. They’ve proven that they don’t care about everyday Georgians, and that they’d rather pick and choose their own constituents and override the will of Georgia voters than do anything to serve our communities.
And at the end of the day, Georgians are the ones who are getting the short end of the stick.
This session has only confirmed what we already knew — that Georgia is in desperate need of new, better leadership. We deserve leaders who will listen to our voices, govern with transparency, and represent our interests instead of their hyper-partisan agenda.
With gratitude, Erick
