Dear John,
While this year's Olympic "Genocide Games" will draw to a close this Sunday, unfortunately for tens of millions of ethnic and religious minorities living under the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) rule, the trampling of human rights will only get worse.
The fact that the International Olympic Committee awarded the CCP with the Beijing Olympics was outrageous from the start.
And over the last few weeks we have witnessed the brutal regime's allies in corporate America and the mainstream media perform their own impressive public relations gymnastics to obscure China's human rights conditions via the Olympic spotlight.
Even the athletes themselves were shockingly warned by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to not "speak out against the Chinese government" for fear of what Xi Jinping might do.
But thankfully, some concerned observers are looking past the glitzy ice rinks, snowy slopes, and award podiums. Instead, they're paying close attention to what's going on beyond the scenes of NBC's carefully orchestrated and edited broadcasts.
A six-hour plane ride away from the greatest sports spectacle of the last two years, China is hiding the biggest torture network of the modern age.
More than a million Uyghur people are detained in internment camps in Xinjiang, sometimes experiencing torture, rape, medical experimentation, and forced labor. Thousands of Uyghur women have endured forced sterilization and cruel forced abortions that warrant the term "genocide."
But China's human rights violations don't stop with Uyghurs...
- House churches in the shadow of the Olympic coliseum face mounting religious restrictions, including being warned to not hold services during the Olympics; Shenzhen Holy Reformed Church felt so squeezed by the government that they fled the country together.
- China has repeatedly been found to use Falun Gong detainees as a source of organ harvesting for transplants on demand.
- Hong Kong, formerly prosperous and free, will never be the same after the CCP enacted a new national security law for the semi-autonomous city and successfully squashed its democracy movement.
When the Olympic spotlight fades in Beijing we must not allow the scrutiny to let up.
As followers of Jesus Christ we have a responsibility to confront, rather than ignore, these human rights abuses and stand for the God-given rights of religious freedom and free speech for all mankind.
Will you partner with FRC as we shine the light of truth on this situation, mobilize prayer for persecuted believers, and hold our elected officials accountable for standing up to the Communist regime?
Protect Religious Freedom
Religious freedom conditions are only going to continuing to deteriorate in China.
Joining me on "Washington Watch" Bob Fu, a Senior Fellow for International Religious Freedom at FRC, shared that "following the Olympics, China will crack down on Christians even more severely."
According to China watchdog Bitter Winter, "In December 2021 new Administrative Measures for Internet Religious Information Services were promulgated by the State Administration of Religious Affairs... The Measures follow complaints by President Xi Jinping that prohibitions against using the Internet to 'advertise' religion are easily eluded, and more should be done to make sure that the Internet and social networks are not used as tools for 'religious propaganda.'"
These measures will come into force on March 1, 2022.
"The Chinese Communist Party has made China into a totalitarian digital tyranny," Fu went on to say. "Thanks to Apple's complicity, Chinese iPhone users are no longer able to download any Bible-related apps. Those apps are now totally removed from access by millions of Chinese users. And the Communist Party has already passed a new law declaring that as of March 1, if you organize an online prayer meeting or put a Bible verse on social media, you could be subject to charges of subversion of state power resulting in up to 5 to 15 years imprisonment..."
Although precise numbers can't be confirmed, experts realistically estimate that there are nearly 100 million Christians in China, and every one of those believers is subject to the CCP's hi-tech digital controls and surveillance.
Totalitarian regimes rely upon eliminating free speech and religious freedom to maintain their stranglehold on power. They try to marginalize, threaten, and punish those who dare to step up and speak out for freedom.
That's why the Chinese Communist Party sanctioned me in March 2021 for my work calling out their human rights violations, especially their oppression of religious minorities like the underground Christian church and Uyghur Muslims.
I joined a few prominent U.S. politicians who have been sanctioned by China, including Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), and Representative Chris Smith (R-N.J.).
But I won't be intimidated or silenced.
The Chinese government's attacks only prove how effective our work at Family Research Council is in calling out religious persecution and censorship of free speech.
We will never forsake our God-given rights or abandon those who are persecuted for their faith.
Protect Religious Freedom
Your critical partnership with Family Research Council enables us to:
- Maintain our presence here in the heart of Washington, D.C., as we raise these issues to allies on Capitol Hill;
- Develop and distribute resources that educate believers on a biblical worldview;
- Amplify our voice to millions of Americans through our Washington Watch broadcast via a growing number of outlets including LiftableTV, NRBTV, HisChannel, almost 800 radio stations, and more; and
- Equip pastors and churches nationwide to pray and take action to stand with the persecuted.
Will you join me in making a commitment before the Lord to continue to pray for the Uyghurs, Christians, and all other religious minorities facing government oppression in China long after the Olympic flame has gone out?
Please also consider partnering financially with FRC to ensure our voice for religious freedom and free speech remains strong. Together, let's make a lasting impact for faith, family, and freedom.
