Everyone should be able to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, especially their own. But information about these concepts isn’t always presented in an accessible way. Our new toolkit, Definitions and Beyond, can help make these conversations accessible to all. This toolkit provides easy-to-understand explanations of societal discrimination and definitions of some words used to talk about LGBTQ+ identities and communities. Definitions and Beyond is a first step towards making these conversations accessible to everyone — more toolkits are in the works about feeling proud and supported as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
This guide will talk about things like:
-
What being LGBTQ+ is
-
The different ways people can identify and present themselves
-
What different kinds of discrimination against LGBTQ+ people there are
-
What stereotypes are and why they are bad
-
How to find community and support if you feel bad about being different
And more!
The toolkit is available in Easy Read and plain language. You can find these materials here.
We hope this resource will help you make LGBTQ+ people feel welcome, and also help you know more about yourself. As we work to combat all forms of oppression together, let’s ensure that conversations about equity are accessible to all of us.
