In just a moment I am going to ask you to make a contribution to my re-election campaign. Please give me a chance to explain why this request is so important.

Thanks to the donations of more than 200,000 people we defeated the recall last September by a healthy margin. And we did it just a few weeks before things went south for Democrats out east.

We received 7,944,092 votes in that election. Most of them by mail.

And if we are going to keep California blue — and I am talking my re-election, Constitutional officers, House candidates and candidates in the legislature — we are going to have to turn out each and every one of those votes once again.

Our success took a lot of work. It wasn’t simply luck and circumstance. And the donations we received were critical to getting it done.

And that is why I have to ask:
