New Place Grants Available
The Center for Congregational Excellence is accepting grant applications from now until April 1 from churches that are establishing new places for new people in the five categories of small group, missional community, recovery ministry, new worship service, and new church or multi-site. The first step is to fill out a worksheet and submit it to your District Superintendent. That’s exactly how Becca Boren, director of youth and young adult ministries at Good Shepherd in Kansas City, has her program aligned. Becca shows us how to turn the standard youth ministry model on its head and allow youth to mentor youth in a meaningful way. At Good Shepherd, Becca has created a system of accountability and growth in her program that has allowed youth to take on meaningful leadership roles while making their faith their own. The season of Lent is essential for those who truly seek to be disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Because a part of what we learn in this time of self-examination is that we are what might be most in need of transformation. We might find that what might need to grow in faith and discipleship is the church and that the transformation of the world begins with building bridges and gathering up rather than with condemnation.
