Speak up against SB 146 [[link removed]]Dear Friend,
Earlier this month, I sat in committee as we heard testimony on SB 146, a bill by Republican lawmakers to ban abortion after 15 weeks. This bill is a politically-driven attempt to control people’s bodies and insert government into their private medical decisions. It would take away freedom from Floridians, making it even harder to access essential health care services.
Even more abhorrent, SB 146 only allows exceptions after 15 weeks when there are fatal fetal abnormalities and when the life of mother is at risk – not in cases of rape, incest, and human trafficking. That’s why I proposed an amendment to allow exceptions in these cases. Even after powerful, emotional testimony from survivors, it was voted down along party lines.
I am deeply committed to protecting reproductive rights, and that’s why I support Ruth’s List Florida. They work to elect Democratic pro-choice women like me across the state, so we can grow the chorus of voices speaking up against abortion bans like SB 146.
It’s not too late to add your name in opposition to this dangerous bill. If, like me, you believe decisions around pregnancy must be left to a person and their doctor, their family, and their beliefs, click here to add your name and say you are AGAINST abortion bans in Florida. [[link removed]]
ADD YOUR NAME [[link removed]]With the future of Roe v. Wade hanging in the balance, Florida may no longer have federal protection to fall back on if this bill passes. If Roe v. Wade is overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court and Florida bans abortion, the closest option for care would be North Carolina. This is not just cruel, it’s inhumane.
I hope you’ll stand with me and Ruth’s List and oppose SB 146 today.
Thanks,
Lauren Book
Senate Democratic Leader
