As a South Carolinian, I firmly believe any state can be a blue state if given the time and resources. That’s why the DNC launched a fund that invests specifically in Republican-led states ahead of the 2022 midterms: the Red State Fund.

We must fight for every available seat this November. Some folks will say this is a long shot, that Democrats can’t win in places like my home state of South Carolina.

But here’s the thing: Just last cycle, Democrats flipped traditionally red states like Georgia and Arizona. How? Because first-time voters, communities of color, and folks in urban and rural communities alike turned out in huge numbers.

We can build upon our 2020 wins this year. We can protect our congressional majorities and expand the map for Democrats -- and we’re not going to write off any historically red states as “unwinnable.”

In 2020, I ran for Senate against incumbent Senator Lindsey Graham. Even though I didn’t win, I left the campaign more convinced than ever that a Democrat could win in South Carolina and other states like it. The enthusiasm for Democratic leadership was undeniable.
