Yesterday, without consulting with the Council or communities, Bowser lifted the vaccine mandate. We know that the mandate is working and cases are just starting to go down. Ending it now is premature. The mandate made it possible for many families, including mine, to feel a little comfort and calmed the anxiety of frontline workers and immunocompromised folks.

In the last 24 hours, I have heard from so many of you who are feeling scared about what comes next and frustrated that this decision was made with no input and no transparency. I’m with you. As mayor, you may not always agree with my decisions, but you’ll always know why I made them. To restore trust in our government, we need transparency and communication.
