I’m about to ask you for $15 to help me elect candidates dedicated to ending gun violence and finally ban weapons of mass destruction. But first, I hope you’ll let me explain why >>
I’m heartbroken.
Four years ago, everything changed when four of my friends were murdered by a gunman who stormed my high school with a military-grade assault weapon.
While I was piled in a closet with my classmates, I received a text from my friend that will be seared in my brain forever:
"There's somebody shooting into my room. I love you guys. Tell my parents I love them."
I will never be the same. And words will never be enough to explain how much I miss my friends.
But even in the wake of tragedy, I knew I had to channel my pain into action to honor my friends’ legacies and make sure this never happens again.
That’s why my brother, David, and I are taking a stand.
We’re standing with Ban Assault Weapons NOW -- founded by grieving family members from the the Parkland and Pulse communities -- to bring down the NRA and ban assault weapons, like the one used to murder my friends.
But David and I can’t do it alone. We need to raise $25,000 today in honor of 17 students and educators who were stolen from us on Feb. 14, 2018. It’s never been more critical to stand up to the gun lobby and eliminate assault weapons for good. Can I count on your $15 in the next 12 hours? Missing this goal would be devastating to our movement. >>
After four years of empty promises, and thoughts and prayers, legislators have still failed to take action to stop gun violence from devastating our communities.
And it shows: We’ve seen 255 school shootings since the one I survived.
Frankly, if we don’t elect leaders who have the guts to take a stand against the NRA, we will never see an end to the bloodshed caused by gun violence.
But the NRA will stop at nothing -- including spending millions -- to keep pro-gun radicals in power and weapons of mass destruction on the streets.
Together we can fight back against the gun lobby, end gun violence, and ban assault weapons once and for all. But first we need to reach $25,000 today in honor of the 17 lives stolen from us four years ago. So I’m personally asking one more time: Will you chip in $15 to help us hit our goal? This is our only hope to enact concrete reforms that will end these horrifying, preventable mass shootings. >>
Thank you for your support,
Lauren Hogg, Parkland Shooting Survivor
P.S. The more money you give, the more we give to gun safety champions who are dedicated to banning assault weapons for good. Can you chip in $5, $15, or even $100 now? >>
