John, I'll never forget that feeling.
One year ago this week, as the coldest weather I've ever remembered bore down on Texas, the lights went out. We were on our own.
We watched pipes burst from the cold, destroying our homes. We watched our neighbors die from the extreme cold, carbon monoxide poisoning, and traffic pile-ups due to icy roads. And our "leaders" went on national television to blame…windmills?
But we the people went out in the cold and took care of each other — because that's what we do. We fought the crisis our corrupt leaders created with compassion and community. And that's what this Texas primary election coming up on March 1 is all about. We have an opportunity to send our own — Jessica Cisneros and Greg Casar — to Congress to fight for us and win a Green New Deal.
From Laredo to San Antonio to Austin, we're fighting for a Green New Deal to create millions of good jobs that pay us to do what we do best: take care of each other.
Republicans, corporate Democrats, and Big Oil want you to forget what happened one year ago in Texas. But we'll never forget. We've seen the power of our community — and that's the kind of power they'll never take away.
In solidarity,
Paris, Sunrise
