John, I'll never forget that feeling.

One year ago this week, as the coldest weather I've ever remembered bore down on Texas, the lights went out. We were on our own.

We watched pipes burst from the cold, destroying our homes. We watched our neighbors die from the extreme cold, carbon monoxide poisoning, and traffic pile-ups due to icy roads. And our "leaders" went on national television to blame…windmills?

But we the people went out in the cold and took care of each other — because that's what we do. We fought the crisis our corrupt leaders created with compassion and community. And that's what this Texas primary election coming up on March 1 is all about.
