** “I’d like more competitive primaries.”
------------------------------------------------------------

We hear this a lot. And we like robust primaries, too. Safe incumbents never want a town hall: there's too much risk that something they say will be used against them.

So meet Imani Oakley, the challenger to Rep Donald Payne Jr. for congressional district 10. She could make history in New Jersey's 10 district. With 12 members in the congressional delegation, there are only two women right now: Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman and Mikie Sherrill. The meeting will be recorded. To prevent Zoom bombing, we will vet all pre-registered guests. Please allow time for us to do this work at the start of the program.

Bio: Imani Oakley is a long-time political organizer and pro-democracy activist running to be first Congresswoman and the first Black Congresswoman in New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District. Prior to running, Imani has dedicated her life to public service, working on issues spanning from affordable housing, millionaires tax, legalization of marijuana, and pro-democracy and voting rights – working at the Federal, State, and grassroots levels. She is a lifelong resident of Montclair and has lived the issues plaguing the 10th District. She is running for Congress because New Jersey’s 10th District deserves a Representative who isn’t afraid to take on the establishment, stand up for democracy, and fight for marginalized communities that are too often pushed aside for the benefit of the wealthy and the politically connected. Imani believes our communities deserve a fierce advocate for the progressive policies that will help our communities to thrive. Imani’s platform includes economic justice,
racial justice, a Green New Deal, Medicare for All, workers’ rights, innovative infrastructure, demilitarization both nationwide and abroad, and a fair democracy for each and every one of us.
