Gray wolf

Hi John,

Gray wolves in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming — like the 24 gunned down outside Yellowstone this season — remain in the crosshairs.

Our historic win in federal court last week, restoring Endangered Species Act protection to wolves across the country, doesn't apply in the northern Rockies.

A political compromise made years ago carved out an exception in those states — and wolves are paying with their lives.

We're in court to save the wolves of the northern Rockies, and we'll never abandon them. Please help with a gift to the Wolf Defense Fund.

Idaho's vicious new laws threaten 90% of the state's wolves. Wolf-killing is now allowed year-round, even when wolves are denning, and the state has approved the use of more painful strangulation snares.

In Montana trappers may now be able to snare multiple wolves, and the state's trapping season has been expanded by four weeks.

The mismanagement of wolves in those states is nothing short of brutal.

We've filed an emergency petition and are pressing the administration to immediately protect wolves in the northern Rockies. And we've asked the Interior Department to strip Idaho and Montana of the federal money they're given for wildlife management because of their war on wolves.

The Center has been fighting for wolves for decades — and that fight must go on.

Today wolves occupy less than 10% of their historic range and continue to face persecution. They need federal protections to recover — and last week a federal judge agreed.

Wolves are not only icons of the American wild but critical to the balance of natural ecosystems.

We know how to win for wolves and wildlife. Our promise to you is that we won't stop fighting and winning for the species we love.

Please give today to the Wolf Defense Fund.

For the wild,
