Happy Valentine's Day, John.

Today, in the spirit of love, I'd like to send a Valentine. No, not to my husband of 32 years (love you, Phil), but to CA-27: the beautiful community I've called home for over four decades.

Right here, in Santa Clarita, California is where I met my husband and raised our two amazing daughters. It's where I learned to drive on the California freeways, where I took my daughters camping, and where I found my love for public service.

From the stunning wilderness of the San Gabriel range to the sun-soaked neighborhoods of LA County, from mountains to the valley, from California mountain lion to California fan palm, this is the place I love and am proud to call home.

This is also the place where I found my voice, first in organized labor, then as a California school board delegate, and finally as a California Assemblywoman. Attending College of the Canyons, a community college in Santa Clarita and the same college my mother attended, gave me the education and backbone I needed to eventually run for Congress.

There are so many reasons why I love CA-27– the arts, the schools, the culture, and the views are all up there – but you know what I love the most? It's the people. Running for Congress means you get to meet so many amazing ones, and this campaign is no exception.

From the activist moms working to end gun violence to the teachers who invest so much to educate our young people. From all the folks on construction crews building our roads so we can safely travel to the restaurant and service sector workers taking care of our community – it's the people who are truly the backbone of this district and from where I draw my inspiration.

While roses may be red (unlike CA-27 after November), and violets may be blue, this campaign is ultimately about you – and all the hardworking, everyday people who make up our wonderful community.

Rather than cards, chocolates, or roses – this Valentine's Day I'm asking for a donation to my campaign. Help bring my love of CA-27 to Congress where I can fight for the hardworking people of the district. >>>
