Corporations profiting from students wanting to get an education and better their lives, to the point of crippling those students financially, is just plain wrong.
But student loan payments are scheduled to resume soon for tens of millions of Americans — because of the power of Wall Street over the Biden administration and both parties in Congress.
That's why Our Revolution is demanding that President Biden — a man from the state of the student loan industry — keep his campaign promises on student debt. President Biden needs to show us where he stands: with students or with Wall Street!
Canceling student loan payments is not a fringe idea. Even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer agrees with us and millions of others that “too many are still not financially prepared to shoulder a giant monthly bill.”
If the federal government can afford to spend TRILLIONS subsidizing Big Oil every year, it can afford to subsidize our country's working class.
Lifting the burden of student loan debt would free millions of families to pursue the American dream and contribute positively to our economy. We can't afford to let the greed of Wall Street and their power over President Biden hold us back from doing the right thing.
