Friend,
The West's wildfire season is now year-round. The Southwest is in a permanent state of drought. Hurricanes are growing more powerful and destructive, and the frequency of coastal flooding has multiplied across the country.
The cost of climate inaction is painfully clear: Climate-fueled extreme weather disasters have cost the U.S. $750 billion over the past 5 years. In 2021 alone, the country suffered $145 billion in climate-disaster damage.
Let me put this as simply as I can: We can't afford not to pass the climate investments in the Build Back Better Act.
If you, like we do, believe we can't afford not to pass climate investments, I need you to sign our petition right now. Then, follow it up with a call to your senators. (We even have a script for you!)
It's not just about avoiding the billions of dollars in damages that the climate crisis already costs us. If Congress can pass the climate investments in the Build Back Better Act, working families will see countless financial benefits, including lower energy bills and over a million new jobs. Plus, these investments are fully paid for.
Now, it's time for President Biden and Democratic leadership to deliver on their climate commitments by passing the transformative climate provisions before March 1. Anything less or later risks even more unnecessary economic devastation.
Congress needs to know the truth: Climate inaction will cost us trillions more than climate investments. Sign our petition right now, and then call your senators to demand they pass this urgent legislation ASAP!
Only bold federal action can help us avoid the worst of these deadly, costly disasters. Failure to act now will all but guarantee that American families bear the burden of those escalating costs.
Thanks for taking action alongside us,
Jamal Raad
