Hi John,

This is Annette Taddeo, Democrat, Latina, and candidate for Governor of Florida. I’m emailing you to explain why I just called on the Florida State Senate to open an emergency investigation, so please take a few minutes to read.

Beginning in early December, my State Senate Office began receiving calls from elderly Democrats complaining their voter registration had been changed to “Republican” without their knowledge and without their consent.

I was immediately suspicious — so I started raising the alarm right away.

After looking into the issue further, it became evident that Latino residents were targeted at an alarmingly higher rate across the entire state of Florida. In fact, there were neighborhoods in which 90% of residents were affected — and even one particular building where 100% of the residents had their registrations changed.

On Friday, I held a press conference in front of that building and formally requested an emergency investigation by the Florida Senate Committee on Ethics and Elections into these grievous allegations.

Today, I’m asking you to join me and call on Senator Dennis Baxley and Leader Wilton Simpson to take up this investigation immediately and pursue it to the fullest possible extent. Can I count on you to add your name?

Let me be very clear, John: This isn’t an isolated incident. This is a coordinated effort by a group of organizations working to illegally change voter registrations — not just in Miami-Dade, but across the state as well.

This activity is not just illegal — but it threatens the very foundation of our democracy.

My community is not a stranger to discrimination. But, we will not tolerate it any longer. We deserve better – merecemos mejor.

That’s why I called for a formal investigation by the Florida Senate and by my committee, the Senate Committee on Ethics and Elections — to subpoena those responsible and question them under oath.

Now, I need you to join me in calling for a formal investigation. If we don’t defend the right to vote at the local level, we will lose it at the national level as well.
