John,
If my husband John — or João, as I call him — ever read what I'm about to tell you, I would tell him my account was hacked 😂. For the past 15 years I've held the title of being his number one troll, and I'm not planning on breaking that streak just because it's Valentine's Day.
But I wanted to reach out to you with an earnest note about why I'm so proud of João and his journey to represent Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate, and then ask if you can pitch in your first $5 to our campaign.
This picture of the two of us is from our very first Valentine's Day we spent together. It was taken at the Braddock Elks Lodge. Can you tell he likes to get dressed up for special occasions? 😂🙄
John, João has been an incredible role model for our three kids, showing them what it means to not turn your back on the communities and issues you care deeply about.
He's always been the most dedicated person I know — to our community and to our family, from the days when he was Mayor of Braddock to now as he serves our great Commonwealth as your Lieutenant Governor.
He's never changed who he is to please others. He's honest and real — and will always call things as he sees them. He’s been fighting for the same things since the days when he and I first met and his views have always remained solid. I wish he’d “evolve” on closing cabinet doors, but one can dream. 🙄
One of the things I love about João is that he knows that love is LOVE and we need more of it in the world, not less. When same-sex weddings were still illegal, he was the only elected official to officiate marriage ceremonies for those amazing couples in western Pennsylvania. But João defied that (AWFUL) law to do right by LGBTQIA+ couples, because he knew then what he knows now: That our LGBTQIA+ neighbors, siblings, and loved ones deserve the right to marry the person they love. 🌈
And while I may rag on João about 99% of the time, he’s the absolute best person I know — and he'd make us all proud as Pennsylvania's next Senator. But he can't take on this challenging journey alone, so I have to ask:
