| Friend, We’re in the midst of not only a climate crisis but also a biodiversity crisis. One huge way to address it is achieving 30x30. 30x30 — conserving 30% of our lands and water by 2030 — is a down payment on our future. Protecting these natural spaces is one of the biggest opportunities for carbon sequestration and biodiversity protection. And 30x30 will also help uplift historically marginalized communities and bring us closer toward building intentional, co-managed land stewardship. Friend, as California leaders outline the statewide priorities and commitments to meet the 30x30 goal, we need to make sure California leaders listen to our needs and demands. Those key objectives include protecting our unique biodiversity, expanding equitable access to nature and its benefits, and conserving places that help California achieve carbon neutrality and/or build climate resilience. Before tomorrow’s public comment deadline, please email the California Natural Resources Agency to make sure they prioritize those values in their 30x30 plan. |
| | At California Environmental Voters, we envision a future of healthy natural and human communities thriving together. Together, through community engagement and collaboration, we are uniting to protect the California we love for generations to come. |

Whoa, whoa, slow down. What is the CNRA? Great question. The CNRA is the agency that oversees the 26 departments, conservancies, and commissions within the state government related to California's natural resources and environment. It has released its Pathways to 30x30 Report, which outlines the statewide priorities and commitments to help conserve 30% of California lands and water by 2030, honoring the commitment Governor Newsom made in his landmark executive order back in 2020. Super important, right? So naturally, my colleagues and I at EnviroVoters have read the full report, and we’ve got some great news: Many of our community and advocacy efforts have been heard and are reflected in the document. Still, we have some critical feedback to give the CNRA to make sure that 30x30 creates family-sustaining, union jobs, protects our most vulnerable communities, and ensures a climate just future for California. And the deadline for public comments is NEXT TUESDAY. Right now, now will you send that email to the California Natural Resources Agency and provide them that important feedback about their 30x30 report? |
| | When you click that button and get to our action page, you’ll be able to read the full public comment email we’ve written up. (Of course, you are welcome to customize it and make any changes to your liking!) But I want to highlight a few key things we’re asking the CNRA to include in the next version of the document: - A full Spanish translation
- More language around workforce development (this not only supports our economy but also broadens legislative, administration, and community buy-in)
- Incorporating specificity around improving transportation and, especially, expanding public transit to improve public lands access
- Language that ensures increased funding for land management and restoration, especially habitats vulnerable to fire that require additional support and mitigation
- Intentionality around creating easements and prioritizing lands that would slow the spread of warehousing and improve the air quality of communities surrounding warehouses and refineries
Friend, this entire process is all about making 30x30 — protecting 30% of California waters and lands by 2030 — a reality. The CNRA is accepting public comments until next Tuesday, February 15. Before then, please send the agency an email with feedback to achieve 30x30! |
