One year ago this week, millions of Texans were left freezing in the dark when our power grid failed. More than five million families lost electricity and hundreds lost their lives due to the incompetence and corruption of our statewide Republican leaders.

What’s worse? Almost nothing has been done to fix our power grid since. Instead of modernizing our grid, Texas Republicans like Greg Abbott took millions in contributions from oil and gas executives and allowed them to write their own legislation.

Friend, last week Ground Game Texas launched our latest ballot campaign in El Paso. We’re putting the issue of climate change and sustainability directly on the ballot to create green jobs, conserve water, and encourage solar power generation. Initiatives like these will reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and our contribution to climate change.

These are the kinds of policies our statewide elected leaders should be promoting. Instead, they’re handing blank checks to oil and gas companies in return for big political donations. They’re leaving Texans vulnerable to another disaster by failing to modernize our grid and invest in green technology.
