Yesterday, Green America protested in front of Carter’s to send the message that Carter’s needs to step up its chemical management policy to protect workers and consumers, but we need your help to amplify our message.
Every year, the apparel industry uses 43 million tons of chemicals in textile production. AND over 8,000 chemicals are used to turn raw materials into textiles. Our Toxic Textile report found that, while companies are starting to address chemical management in their supply chains, most need to do more.
As the largest retailer of baby clothes, one brand in particular stood out (and not for good reasons) – Carter’s. Carter’s does not disclose what chemicals consumers or workers are exposed to, so we have no idea what the lasting, harmful health effects may be from children wearing Carter’s clothes – this is unacceptable!
Join us today in telling Carter’s to end toxic textiles. You can call, tweet, post on Facebook, or email Carter’s, letting it know that consumers deserve to know what toxic chemicals are in our children’s clothes.
And, Carter’s owns other brands like: OshKosh B’gosh, Skip Hop, Simple Joys (sold exclusively on Amazon), Just One You (sold in Target), Genuine Kids (sold in Target), Child of Mine (sold in Walmart), and Precious Firsts (sold in Target).
Harmful chemicals in our clothes can cause liver damage, disrupt hormonal functions, and damage the nervous system. And some are cancer-causing carcinogens. Worst of all, consumers and workers rarely know what they are being exposed to and how that will affect their lives. Instead, the current dynamic leaves all of the knowledge and power with corporations, like Carter’s, due to a lack of transparency.
Let Carter’s know that this dynamic is unacceptable!
Together, we can help reform the apparel industry so clothing stops being harmful to workers, communities, the planet, and our children.
Thank you for your continued support,
