SBA SUCCESS STORY

KEVIN AND LISA BROWN ALEXANDER, CO-OWNERS

WELLSPRING MANOR & SPA

Kevin Alexander and Lisa Brown Alexander of Wellspring Manor & Spa

?

*Wellsprings of Hope for ?Wellspring Manor & Spa?*

Kevin Alexander and Lisa Brown Alexander opened their small business, Wellspring Manor & Spa, in 2018. Located just outside Washington, D.C., the intimate retreat center is designed to compete with much larger facilities across the Washington Metropolitan Area, including five-star hotels and well-known conference halls.

The Alexanders? company started on a firm footing, as Kevin had recently retired from his role as a Managing Director of Construction Services with a major insurance company. With his strong financial and business management acumen -- combined with his long-standing experience in the construction and related trade industries -- Mr. Alexander was poised to help launch his company toward success.

Meanwhile, having demonstrated her success as an entrepreneur and business leader, Lisa had been named in 2011 as one of Washington, D.C.'s "Top 25 Minority Business Leaders" by The Washington Business Journal. Lisa's extensive leadership experience in human resources, consulting, and marketing made the Alexanders the ideal team to lead a successful small business.

Still, nobody could have predicted at the time what the next two years would bring. The COVID-19 pandemic hit the hospitality industry especially hard, as room reservations were suddenly canceled and people quickly remained isolated from one another. How would the retreat center ever survive?

Like many other small business owners, Kevin and Lisa learned about the economic relief programs being offered through the SBA. Benefiting not only from a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan but also a COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) and EIDL Advance, the Alexanders were able to keep Wellspring Manor & Spa in business while keeping both their loyal and new customers, alike, safe and satisfied.

Today, Kevin and Lisa are thankful to have weathered the worst of the pandemic through the access to capital made possible by the SBA. As Kevin describes it, the SBA's COVID-19 relief programs have proven to be "lifesavers" over these last many months. Now, more than ever, it's a peace of mind the Alexanders can share with their grateful guests.?
