Yea! It's time! We finally get to vote! Early voting is Feb 14-25, and Election Day is Mar 1.
True Texas Project held two important forums and lots of "statewide candidate nights" around the state. We also have created voting recommendation lists. If you are still weighing out your ballot options, please check these resources out!
Gubernatorial Forum - It's no secret that True Texas Project is Anyone But Abbott. You can read all about why here.
Don Huffines, Chad Prather, and Allen West all participated in our forum, which asked very direct questions of each candidate. As a result, we walked away with good data. For example, we learned that of the three, Huffines has the most well-developed ideas for things like the border and property taxes. And after hearing from Prather, he had the most votes changed to him when the forum was over. West always throws out good red meat and did not disappoint, though we did learn that he is not 100% pro-life, which caused the room to react audibly. If you have not had a chance to hear these candidates, please watch it here.
Lt Governor Forum - All 5 of the challengers to Dan Patrick participated in our forum, and what a group they are! I found myself wishing all 5 could somehow be a part of the new legislature! Although they have a lot in common, all 5 had something unique to offer. How do you choose??? Well, maybe you can watch this video and figure it out! This video is on our Facebook page. If you prefer to watch it on YouTube, it is supposedly being uploaded but so far it's not there. You can check our channel now and then and eventually you will find it, but I did not want to wait any longer to get this email out since early voting is upon us!
Statewide Candidate Nights - We've hosted around 10 Statewide Candidate Nights around the state, providing an opportunity for candidates that have to cover the entire state of Texas more than the usual 30 seconds to introduce themselves at a TTP meeting. ;-) Nomgi t every location has had the same candidates show up, which means our video is not all-inclusive, but it might help you with a race or two. You can watch it here. It's a sideways video, but you can always just listen in and not actually watch if that bothers you. Again, this is a Facebook video that should soon be uploaded to our YouTube channel if you want to wait for that.
Voting Recommendations - Our website has voting recommendations for over 20 different Texas counties. Y'all, these are meant to be helpful starting points. If you disagree with the names listed, you don't have to message me. Just do your research, pick your candidate, and go vote!
IMPORTANT (PLEASE READ!):The statewide choices were made by our Board of 7 members. We interview, research and vet every candidate. We don't base our decisions on friendships, good speeches, commercials, mailers, donations, looks, or popularity. We listen to what the candidate claims and then we research to make sure it's true. There are LOTS of candidates the grassroots like because the candidates are popular when making the rounds, but our Board digs a little deeper to decipher if the candidate really is qualified, or if they are exaggerating their skills and experience, or if their game plan is actually doable, or if attacks made on the opponent are legit, or... well, you get the idea. We spend hours and hours taking this very seriously. Our Board has been doing this a long time, and I'll just toot our own horn and say we're pretty good at it. ;-) For this reason, we reserve the privilege of the statewide recommendations for our Board alone, and we do not share that privilege with our county leadership teams.
For the down-ballot choices within a county, however, we rely on the leadership in that TTP satellite location.
