Look, I’ve got to level with you. Hear me out, ok? I want to explain what is happening in plain sight.

The vicious cycle of mass incarceration is exploding, and all of the life-saving work we’ve done is at risk.

Our opponents — the police, wealthy donors who benefit from their investments in a cruel, cruel system that locks people up in response to DECADES of racist policies — are throwing everything they can at us.

And the media is EATING it up.

Every day, there’s a new headline about rising crime, lawless cities, the need for MORE funding for the police, MORE resources to throw people in jail and in prison.

John, this is the same old pattern. We’ve seen it before. In the 1980s, this is exactly what resulted in the HUGE surge we saw in mass incarceration machine that locked up Black, brown, and poor people and never stopped.

The people who uphold this system criminalize drug use. They criminalize poverty. They will criminalize practically anything as long as it makes them a profit and allows them to keep strengthening a dangerous system that kills people.

We’ve GOT to keep exposing the truth about this vicious cycle. And we must elect fighters for justice who deeply understand that the response to crime is to INVEST in our communities – not throw even more money at such a deeply insidious system that only causes MORE harm and MORE pain.
