25 kilometers

Located 338-kilometers north of the demilitarized zone and only 25-kilometers from the Chinese border in Chagang Province, North Korea's undeclared Hoejung-ni missile operating base will, according to informed sources, likely house a regiment-sized unit equipped with intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM).

1.47 million

Before 2014, Ukraine was host to a small number of asylum seekers and others seeking refuge. However, the simmering conflict in eastern Ukraine since 2014 has changed that dramatically. As of July 2021, there were 1.47 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) registered by the Ukrainian Ministry of Social Policy. If Russia were to invade Ukraine, forced displacement is almost certain to increase significantly.

60%

Chinese citizens have a range of opinions about individual rights and political freedoms that do not always match existing policies or state propaganda. Survey data collected by Stanford professors Jennifer Pan and Yiqing show that almost 60 percent of respondents supported allowing people to express their views on government policies, whether positive or negative.

Below 100 km

Hypersonic weapons are those that can travel and maneuver at five times the speed of sound at altitudes below those of most ballistic missiles. The altitude range for hypersonic flight is below 100 km, where space is often said to begin, and typically around 20 to 60 km above the ceilings of most aircraft and cruise missiles. These combined characteristics of high speed, lower altitude, and maneuverability are what stress existing defenses.
