Good morning, John.

I have a rare few minutes to spare this morning, and I'm feeling reflective. I'd like to spend that time telling you why I care so much about fighting for every family's chance to succeed. It's why I'm running. 

My grandfather believed in the American dream as fiercely as anyone I've ever known. It's what inspired him to cross the Rio Grande and to serve his new country in World War II. 

To him, America was a place where, with hard work and determination, people could build a better life for themselves and their families. He and my grandmother did just that. He worked as a baker, she as a sales clerk, and together, they raised my dad.

My father raised my sister and me with the same principles his parents taught him: work hard, be honest, and respect everyone. Every day, in everything I do, I carry those values and the knowledge that I am living my grandfather's American dream. That my family has an amazing story of opportunity. 

But for too many, that dream – that opportunity – is getting harder to achieve. That's why I'm fiercely committed to making sure every family has a chance to pursue their American dream. That's why I'm fighting with everything I have to defend Nevada's Senate seat and our Democratic Senate. But I need your help, John.

It was hard work, determination and a lot of grassroots support from people like you that helped me become our nation's first and only Latina senator. My story is one of family and community. I'm relying on community – on you, John – once again because I'm in a tough spot.
