Take action: Tell Congress to fight for real climate solutions.
John,
Big oil and gas are trying to trick you into thinking they care about the environment.1
A carbon tax is one example where we are seeing fossil fuel interests changing tactics and pushing this false solution in an effort to keep their profits growing, while also undermining our work to stop catastrophic climate change.
It’s no surprise that behind a group called the Climate Leadership Council — which is pushing a carbon tax aggressively in Congress — are the major oil companies BP, ExxonMobil and Shell. But carbon taxation doesn’t work — as much as they like to tell you otherwise.
Carbon taxes are a regulatory rollback that places a tax on dirty greenhouse gas emissions instead of setting emission limits. This means that not only will oil and gas companies get to keep polluting, but they can pass the cost of polluting on to you. Our climate gets worse and you get stuck with the bill!
Two proposals introduced in Congress divert carbon tax revenue to fund unproven carbon capture and storage technology at power plants. These bills allow oil and gas companies to keep polluting our planet while offering no real solutions to combating climate change.
Because you fight every day like you live here, our movement is growing in power and influence — winning real victories for a clean energy future. Together, we can put a stop to all new fossil fuel development and make a just and equitable transition to 100 percent clean, renewable energy.
Onward together,
Jim Walsh
