John,

Right now in the United States, 4.6 million children live in homes with access to an unlocked or unsupervised gun. And while 1 in 5 parents believe their child has never handled a gun without supervision, they're wrong.

Every day, eight children and teens are unintentionally shot by an unsecured firearm and nearly 60 Americans die by suicide with a gun. These horrific incidences are called "family fire" -- and it's long past time we do something about it.

Dr. Kim Schrier, along with her colleagues from both sides of the aisle, has co-introduced a new bipartisan bill named the Prevent Family Fire Act. It will give a tax credit to retailers who sell devices that allow firearms to be stored safely, helping reduce the number of family fire deaths.

Will you join Kim and her colleagues in supporting commonsense gun reform? Add your name now to become a citizen co-sponsor of the Prevent Family Fire Act.

Keeping our families safe from gun violence is not a partisan issue.

As a mom to a young son, Kim knows that kids can find anything -- even guns. That's why it's so important that families make sure that firearms are stored securely. It may seem like a small step forward, but simply keeping guns locked and unloaded reduces family fire risk by 73 percent.

You helped elect a pediatrician and mom to Congress, and now she is fighting for solutions that protect our children -- but she needs your help. We are not powerless. There are bipartisan steps we can take right now to reduce gun violence.

It's time to take action, not sides. Add your name now to become a citizen co-sponsor of the Prevent Family Fire Act.

Thank you,

Team Schrier
