Can you take 3 minutes, right now, to tell your representatives that you want to see them support the impeachment inquiry wherever it leads?
[link removed] [[link removed]]Friend,
Today marks an historic, but somber day for our nation. The beginning of public hearings into possible impeachment articles against the president started this morning. Americans will now have the opportunity to hear about the president’s misdeeds for themselves, straight from the mouths of those who witnessed or abetted it.
The transcripts we’ve seen so far have painted a clear picture of a president who abused his power - and our tax dollars - in a scheme designed to force a foreign country into helping him win his next election. But while many key witnesses will testify in public today, many more are refusing to respect Congress’ authority, helping the president obstruct their inquiry.
Every member of Congress should be outraged by the president’s blatant disrespect for their power as a democratically elected, co-equal branch of government. But House Republican leadership has already promised to help the president get away with his obstruction.
That’s why we need your help flooding their phone lines to demand they put aside partisan self-interest to participate in a legitimate inquiry to determine the president’s guilt or innocence. [[link removed]]
The truth is, the evidence we’ve already seen is damning. And the House GOP leadership’s defense has been roundly debunked. Trump’s Ukraine extortion scheme is as clear as day, and it fits in a much larger pattern of behavior that started as a candidate, and will continue until he is held accountable. From the obstruction of justice detailed in the Mueller Report, to new testimony in the Roger Stone trial which contradicts Trump’s sworn statements, the president’s utter disregard for the rule of law couldn’t be more clear.
That’s why, if Republican members of Congress want to stand up for the Constitution, they have to start by respecting the impeachment process, and earnestly seek the truth above partisan talking points.
John, can you take 3 minutes, right now, to tell your representatives that you want to see them support the inquiry wherever it leads? If so, simply click here [[link removed]] , fill out your information, and you’ll receive a phone call connecting you to your elected representative.
You’ll receive a brief message from SUR Executive Director Evan McMullin, guiding you through what to say, before being routed to your member’s office. Once there, simply tell the staff member on the line where you’re from and that you expect your representative to support the inquiry.
Not everyone will listen, and many in Congress will simply put their political interests ahead of the national interest. But we have to believe that there are still members of good conscience who can be convinced to put country over party. And if they hear from us that we support the inquiry, they will stand up too.
Please help us keep the pressure on our elected leaders. It’s their job to represent us, and protect our country. They can only do that by earnestly and honestly participating in the inquiry.
