Earlier this week, the House of Representatives passed — by an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 342 to 92 — a critical piece of legislation called the Postal Service Reform Act.
But this landmark bill won’t become law if it stalls out in the Senate.
Add your name to our petition urging the Senate to pass the Postal Service Reform Act.
The Postal Service Reform Act is the jump-start the USPS — which, as a reminder, gets no taxpayer funding and is currently being run by a Republican mega-donor installed by Donald Trump — desperately needs, including:
- It reverses an absurd law (passed during the George Bush presidency) that has required the Post Office to set aside enough money to fund retiree health benefits 75 years into the future — something no other federal agency or private corporation is subject to.
- It directs the USPS to create an online tool that makes data on its performance more accessible and transparent to the American people.
- It preserves the Monday-through-Saturday delivery standard that is a recurring target of those who want to shrink or privatize the United States Postal Service.
