Subject I grew up in Selma, Alabama – the heart of Alabama’s Black Belt – and my family’s history is tied to the history of this district. Will you read my family’s story and then help me reach my mid-month goal?

Folks,

I’m a third-generation Selmian, and my family’s history is tied to the history of the Alabama Black Belt and our nation’s Civil Rights Movement.

I’m going to ask you to support my campaign by chipping in before my mid-month fundraising deadline [[link removed]] , but first, I want to share a little bit about my family with you:

The generations of Selmians who came before me taught me about perseverance, as they stood tall in the face of a segregated South.

My grandfather labored in the rich soil of the Black Belt as a sharecropper — and his hard work ensured his family never went without.

His sacrifices paved the way for the next generation: my father was a math teacher and my mother was a librarian who went on to become the first Black woman elected to the Selma City Council.

The history of my hometown is embedded in my DNA, and I owe so much of who I am to those that came before me to pave the way for a better future. It is thanks to them that I was able to follow my passions and become the first Black woman elected to represent Alabama in Congress.

As the only Democratic representative of Alabama in Congress, I feel more emboldened than ever to keep fighting for the hard-working families of the Black Belt, and continue paving the path towards a brighter, and equitable future — and I’m asking you to join me. Please, will you chip in to my campaign today? [[link removed]]
