To advocate means, literally, to speak up for someone. From Washington, D.C. to your hometown, the UNICEF USA Advocacy Team galvanizes a passionate grassroots community to speak up and champion legislation that protects and empowers children. We do this by urging decision makers in all sectors – governments, corporations, schools, communities — to implement policies and budgets that prioritize children's rights.
Last year was hard for people everywhere – especially children – but it wasn't without progress. UNICEF USA advocates across the country championed new and creative legislative solutions to the world’s big problems so that children around the world would continue to get the care, support and resources they deserve.
Here are some of the critical advocacy successes of the last year: |
We thank Congress and our supporters, especially our youth advocates, for every advocacy win in 2021. From the record-breaking turnout for virtual Advocacy Week to Congress’ official recognition of UNICEF’s 75th Anniversary. The passing of multiple mental health protection bills, and the continued progress on legislation that will improve the lives of girls and women. Thank you for your relentless pursuit of a better world for children.
In 2022, we are already rallying support for issues like protecting migrant children, climate justice and securing humanitarian funding for what lies ahead.
On Thursday, March 24th, advocates will once again mobilize to meet with members of Congress about UNICEF’s work and priorities. Virtual Advocacy Day 2022 will include online training and multiple small group meetings with Members of Congress and staff. All are welcome to lend their voice and advocate for children.
