John,
My first role in public office was on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board. I ran for this position because I knew that kids, especially Black and brown kids like my sons, needed another champion on the school board, someone who would always look out for them and their success.
The need to improve education drove me to public service, and I haven’t stopped fighting for our students. In Congress, I will continue to champion policies that make our schools safer, more effective, and well funded.
SUPPORT VALERIE [link removed]
I believe that increased investment in early education is key to ensuring that all children have the support they need to grow and thrive. In Congress, I will work to guarantee free, quality universal pre-K to prepare every child for day one of kindergarten and beyond.
But my commitment to improving education spans far beyond just the needs of young children. Higher education is a pathway to greater opportunity, opening countless doors for our young people. It did that for me when I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Unfortunately, however, rising costs are a barrier to too many young people’s pursuit of higher education. That’s why I’m in favor of canceling existing student debt and expanding programs that keep loan payments affordable and income-based.
In Congress, I will advocate for financial assistance to states and students to ensure that all students can get a debt-free education at all public universities and colleges.
Please, if you share my belief in the importance of education and making it more accessible and affordable, please chip into my campaign for Congress. Your support makes a significant difference! →
