I do solemnly swear that
I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States
against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same.
Those are the first words of the oath I took as a member of the United States Air Force. They’re the same words that begin the oath that John Cornyn took when he became Senator nearly two decades ago.
As the impeachment hearings begin today, I am thinking about that oath and what it means. Sen. Cornyn has the constitutional duty to put our country over political party, and that means following the facts and giving a fair hearing to the allegations that the president abused his power for political gain.
As a combat veteran, it is unconscionable to me that a senator would flat-out reject the oath he took, and yet Sen. Cornyn “vows not to pay attention to impeachment.” Here’s what he said to The Washington Post:
“‘I’m just not going to -- I do not approve,’ said Cornyn, who would serve as a juror in a Senate trial. Asked if that meant he was not going to watch the daily developments, he said, ‘No, I am not, or by an hourly basis, or minute by minute.’”
Sen. Cornyn has abandoned his oath of office. Will you pitch in to help me defeat him next November?
To make his conduct even worse, Sen. Cornyn is using the Congress upholding its constitutional duty to deflect from his total lack of legislative accomplishments for Texans. He went so far as to shift the blame to the American people. Take a look:

Sen. Cornyn has worked his tail off to bury legislation on critical issues -- like universal background checks, lower prescription drug prices, and improved election security -- in Mitch McConnell’s legislative graveyard. He can’t use impeachment to hide his record of putting his D.C. bosses and the special interests over Texans every single time.
I took an oath to protect our Constitution when I served in our military. So did John Cornyn when he became Senator. His conduct is unbefitting of this oath.
Sen. Cornyn has forgotten about the people and the Constitution he serves. It’s time we vote him out. Will you pitch in to help me defeat him?
Thanks,
MJ Hegar
