John,

When a kid has someone who believes in them, it makes all the difference. I know, because it made a difference for me.

I grew up in a neighborhood where many kids needed someone who would fight for them. But I was lucky. I had people like my mom and grandma who saw my potential and invested in me, and that changed my life. I’ve devoted my career to giving back—first as a counselor for incarcerated youth, then helping young people advocate for environmental justice and now on the communications team at the Children’s Defense Fund.

In my work, I’ve always believed in the power of young people and helped make their voices heard. At CDF, I shine a light on the everyday experiences of children living in poverty, experiencing homelessness or caught in the justice system by elevating their stories in the press, online and in conversations with decision makers.

I believe in the potential of every child—especially those who are so often left out. And I know I need to tell their stories so that other people will believe in them, too.

When you make a gift to the Children’s Defense Fund, you’re telling children in need that you believe in them and that you want them to succeed. These children’s stories are too often ignored or not told at all. But with your support, we will continue to be a strong, effective and independent voice for all the children of America.

Gratefully,

Joshua Stewart
