John — The United States has the worst maternal mortality rate in the developed world. This rate is only rising, and it’s driven by far higher mortality rates among Black mothers and birthing people of color.
Today, Black women are three to four times as likely as white women to die from pregnancy-related complications. These alarming statistics can’t be ignored.
That’s why in 2019, Lauren co-founded the Black Maternal Health Caucus with one simple goal: save moms’ lives. Every day since, Lauren has been working hard to do just that by passing her historic legislation, the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act.
Lauren’s Momnibus package will finally reverse the rising trend of maternal mortality, save the lives of moms, and close racial and ethnic disparities in maternal health outcomes. It includes 12 bills to address this crisis — and last November, the first piece of legislation, Protecting Moms Who Served Act, was signed into law. Momentum is on our side, and now, it’s time to keep pushing forward.
As a registered nurse, Lauren knows firsthand the need to address this crisis, and will never stop fighting to save moms’ lives. Will you join her by signing on as a citizen co-sponsor of the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act? [[link removed]]
