Dear John,

I want to share some updates with you from Congress and across the country. Here are three things to know today:

1. Recently, I announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development had awarded $1.25 million to local farms through the Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program. Awardees in Middle and Southwest Georgia included Goodson Pecans, LLC, Georgia Organic Peanut Association, Inc., Southern Pasture Power, LLC, Longleaf Ridge Farms, LLC, and New Communities at Cypress Pond. Each will receive $250,000 to either develop or enact ideas to expand their business. Our farmers and producers are entrepreneurs that help feed America and drive our economy. Value Added Producer Grants help these creative and hardworking business owners explore and implement ideas that can grow their businesses. As the chair of the House Appropriations subcommittee that funds USDA Rural Development programs, like VAPG, I am working hard every day to ensure Congress provides robust resources to make investments like this that strengthen local economies.

2. On Tuesday, I, along with Congressman Glenn Thompson (R-PA-15), introduced a resolution celebrating the Boy Scouts of America’s 112th birthday. No organization has done more to build leadership and character in America’s youth than the Boy Scouts of America. Successive generations of boys, and now girls, who have promised to do their duty to God and country, to obey the scout law, to help other people at all times, to keep physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight, are the essence of what has made America great. As one whose life has been impacted by scouting, I am proud to join Congressman Glenn Thompson in honoring and celebrating the noble character and spirit of this great organization.

3. Thanks to Republican gerrymandering efforts in Georgia, my district is more competitive than it has been in decades. This has led to national GOP organizations honing in on our race. They have begun funneling in money and resources to flip my seat — and with it our House majority. Please, help us keep pace by making a donation today. [[link removed]]
