Dear John,

How are you doing? It has been a whirlwind of a week. I’m tracking both movement at the Minnesota Legislature (important bill hearings next week on Paid Family & Medical Leave, expanding MinnesotaCare, redistricting, and more) and the massive Minneapolis resident-led effort filing ethic complaints against Mayor Frey.

Stay tuned for more actions. Let’s get to the Digest.

Here’s what we’re reading, watching, and listening to this week:

2. Minneapolis
“After the release of the body camera footage of Locke’s killing, Mayor Jacob Frey committed to banning no-knock warrants, which allow law enforcement to enter a residence without notifying anyone who may be inside. This might sound like a victory, but it is a distraction; Frey campaigned on having banned no-knock warrants.” Read this piece in Teen Vogue by Minneapolis City Councilor Robin Wonsley Worlobah.

6. Childcare
The U.S. is one of the only developed countries that expects parents to shoulder the cost of childcare alone. Read about First Lady Biden’s visit to Minnesota to talk about federal funding and the need for childcare infrastructure.

7. Workforce
This story blew my mind. Since the pandemic, 1.1 million women have left the workforce in the U.S. and haven’t returned. Read about women in the workforce since the pandemic in the Washington Post.

8. Euphoria
So many staff members have been watching the long-awaited second season of HBO’s Euphoria. This piece dives into the extremely realistic portrayal of caregiving in the U.S.
