John,

Republicans who shoved through a conservative supermajority onto the Supreme Court are getting their wish, a steady reversal of voting rights protections. After gutting key provisions of the Voting Rights Act in 2013, the Supreme Court is again poised to hollow out the act and allow more racial discrimination in our voting laws.

The Supreme Court reversed a circuit court ruling that would have forced Alabama to redraw their redistricting maps because they were clearly racially discriminatory. The high court also announced it will revisit another key provision of the Voting Rights Act that bars racially discriminatory practices.

John, the Supreme Court is ready to turn back the clock on civil rights.

Let’s not forget, the Voting Rights Act was passed in the wake of generations of Jim Crow laws that deliberately suppressed the right to vote from people of color. We are quickly falling back into the same pattern of voters of color having their access to the ballot box blocked.
