Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Week in Review
For the week ending February 11, 2022
 Burr Oak State Park's sign in Glouster has been updated to read ?Burrow Oak State Park" in honor of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
On Monday,?Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Director Mary Mertz temporarily renamed three Ohio State Parks to honor current and past players of the Super-Bowl-bound Cincinnati Bengals.
?We are incredibly proud of the Bengals and everything they have accomplished this season,? said Governor DeWine. ?The whole state will be rooting for Cincinnati on Sunday, and this is a fun way to show support for the orange and black."
 Two other parks were renamed in honor of the Super Bowl this weekend. Paint Creek State Park in Bainbridge was renamed "Evan McPherson Extra Point Creek State Park," and Hueston Woods State Park in College Corner honors legendary Bengals running back Ickey Woods, and is now dubbed "Ickey Woods State Park."
 Lt. Governor joins representatives from Rumpke Waste and Recycling as they announce a new, high-tech $50 million facility that will create 60 new jobs.
On Tuesday, Lt. Governor Jon Husted spoke at Rumpke Waste & Recycling Services' new $50 million campus investment announcement event in Columbus.
This world-class facility will create 60 new jobs and boast the most technologically advanced equipment featuring robots and AI to boost the speed of their processing by 50%.
 Also on Tuesday,?Governor DeWine announced that a dozen local law enforcement agencies will strengthen their recruitment efforts with support from the Ohio Office of Law Enforcement Recruitment.?
Law enforcement agencies in Clark, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Logan, Lucas, Mahoning, Medina, Montgomery, Shelby, and Summit counties will receive grants as part of the first round of funding offered as part of the new Ohio Law Enforcement Recruitment Grant Program.?
"Law enforcement is a distinguished and honorable profession, but agencies all over the country are facing serious shortages in new recruits, which is dangerous for the current workforce and for the citizens they serve and protect," said Governor DeWine. "The agencies receiving grants have all developed plans that will help them recruit more qualified job candidates, particularly women and minorities who oftentimes face barriers to employment in criminal justice careers."
Governor DeWine prioritized the creation of the Ohio Law Enforcement Recruitment Grant Program in the state's 2022-2023 operating budget, which was passed by the Ohio General Assembly last year.?Administered by the Ohio Office of Law Enforcement Recruitment, the grant program totals $1 million over the biennium, with the remaining funds to be offered in fiscal year 2023. Additional law enforcement recruitment funding will also be offered as part of the $250 million that Governor DeWine and the Ohio General Assembly dedicated to law enforcement in December.

Additionally, on Tuesday,?Governor DeWine announced that Sunday, February 13, 2022, will be recognized as Cincinnati Bengals Day?in Ohio.
"I wish the Bengals luck as they prepare to play the Los Angeles Rams this weekend," Governor DeWine said. "They have had a great season and hopefully they can win once more to bring home Ohio's first Super Bowl championship!"
On Wednesday,?Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted joined representatives from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Destination Cleveland, and the Ohio Department of Development for a virtual media briefing on festivities surrounding the upcoming NBA All-Star Game in Cleveland.

The Lt. Governor gave remarks on Wednesday morning at the Career-Tech and Adult Education Legislative Seminar about the importance of Career and Technical Education to Ohio?s economy and workforce.?Then, he?stopped by the Young Presidents Organization Columbus Chapter to speak with members.

On Thursday, Governor DeWine held a media availability at the?Westin Los Angeles Airport to talk?about Super Bowl LVI, all things Cincinnati Bengals, and all things Ohio ahead of the big game on Sunday. Governor DeWine is a long-time season ticket holder for the Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds. Prior to Super Bowl LVI, Governor DeWine also attended Ohio's most recent "winner take all" professional championship game, Game 7 of the 2016 World Series in Cleveland.

Also on Thursday, Governor DeWine reappointed Daniel R. Conway to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). Conway was first appointed to the PUCO in 2017 by former Governor John Kasich. Conway's current term expires April 10, 2022, and his new five-year term starts April 11th.?
?Commissioner Conway has a track record of being judicious and weighing issues from all sides. I appreciate Commissioner Conway?s continued service on the PUCO,? said Governor DeWine.
Governor DeWine and California Governor Gavin Newsom placed a friendly wager on Friday ahead of Super Bowl LVI, featuring the AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals and the NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams.
?Fran and I are so excited by the Bengals? thrilling playoff run and Super Bowl appearance,? said Governor DeWine. ?This friendly bet highlights some of Cincinnati?s most iconic foods and restaurants that everyone across Ohio and across the U.S.A. should know about and enjoy!?
