Friday, February 11, 2022 | The Latest Research, Commentary, And News From Health Affairs
Dear John,
Earlier this week, Health Affairs published its theme issue on racism and health,
which includes the latest scholarship on the topic.
Beyond this particular journal issue, Health Affairs is committed to publishing articles and research that address the impact of racism on health. Editor-In-Chief Alan Weil shares his observations on creating a more equitable publishing environment.
Leading To Health
A new Leading To Health column highlights a sweeping initiative, United Against Racism, designed to make the Mass General Brigham health system an explicitly antiracist institution.
Mass General Brigham is the largest health system in Massachusetts and the
state’s largest employer, encompassing more than a dozen hospitals and more than 75,000 employees, including thousands of doctors.
"United Against Racism begins from the premise that racism is deeply embedded in health care and moves directly to the daunting task of fixing the problem," explains author Heather Tirado Gillian.
At the plan’s core are three goals: improving health equity for current patients, improving health in the communities Mass General Brigham serves, and creating workforce equity.
Today in Health Affairs Forefront, Clare Rock and Nam Tran discuss the
low-cost, high-throughput, laboratory-based COVID-19 antigen tests and the role that this technology could play in the safe resumption of normal activities.
Krishna Juluru and coauthors describe a home COVID-19 testing pilot program which demonstrates that it is possible to establish an electronic pathway for self-test result reporting to public health authorities.
In GrantWatch, the Pediatrics Supporting Parents initiative, a group of six national foundations, aims to help transform pediatric care to better support young children's social and emotional development. The initiative centers on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color families, writes India Alarcon and coauthors.
