The Texas primary is our first chance to pick the progressive champions who will go up against the GOP in November. But more than that, it’s a stark reminder that we are about to dive headfirst into the 2022 midterms.

There’s a long list of reasons why the midterms are so important. Everything is on the line: Control of the House and Senate. Control of the Supreme Court. COVID recovery. The Build Back Better plan. Climate action. The right to choose.

Even more than that, the midterms are our only chance to protect our democracy from the party of Trump. Right now, Republicans are working across the country to strip away the right to vote, sow distrust in fair elections, and gerrymander themselves into power permanently. Congress is our last line of defense against the GOP’s turn towards authoritarianism.
