Team MLG Update

Hi, John! Michelle Lujan Grisham is building a better future for New Mexico as the state legislative session continues. You're a key part of this campaign, so we want to give you a behind-the-scenes look at what the Governor is working on.

Strengthening Education

Right now, the nation is facing a teacher shortage – but Gov. Lujan Grisham is working to provide New Mexico students with top-tier education. She proposed raising teacher wages this year to encourage educators to work in New Mexico, and the state legislature just passed her landmark bill.

Currently, the minimum salary for entry-level teachers is $41,000 per year – and the bill would increase starting teacher salaries to $50,000, making New Mexico the highest-paying state in the region. We know that New Mexico children deserve the best – and now, they will learn from the very best teachers, too.

Fighting Climate Change

Gov. Lujan Grisham has been leading New Mexico toward a greener future since the first day she got into office. With the start of the new legislative session, the Governor has taken two exciting steps toward reducing our state's greenhouse gas pollution.

First, the Governor was proud to see the Senate pass the Clean Fuel Standard Act, which will reduce emissions by an estimated 18.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide – the equivalent of taking 570,000 cars off the road for a year. Additionally, the Governor just announced the introduction of a bill that would incentivize clean hydrogen development and steer the emerging industry toward a low-carbon future.

Supporting Small Businesses

Gov. Lujan Grisham launched the Buy New Mexico initiative in 2019 to support our state's small businesses, and the state Senate just unanimously passed a bill that would expand this successful initiative.

The bill will incentivize New Mexicans to spend their money at local businesses, including those owned by Native Americans and veterans. This is just one of many policies that the Governor has implemented to attract entrepreneurs to our great state and strengthen our local economies.
