1️⃣ I am a mom. It is an honor to serve my community in Congress every day, but my absolute favorite job is being a mom to my nine-year-old son. I will always make working parents and our children a top priority in Congress.

2️⃣ I am an educator. Before I went into public service, I taught Public Policy with a focus on public finance at Georgia State. Fiscal responsibility and education are always top of mind for me when writing and passing good legislation.

3️⃣ My very first job was selling hats. I know, it sounds funny. My mom was an artist and my dad — after many years of teaching — decided to get into the business of selling large animal paper hats. He just wanted to bring people joy. My college essay was actually titled “How to sell a hat in the rain.” It may sound silly, but that job taught me how to talk to people and the importance of community.

4️⃣ My hero is Alice Rivlin. She was the founder of the Congressional Budget Office, which may sound like a dry topic to some, but it is extremely exciting to me. She was a pioneer for women in government and economics. She established a critical, non-partisan, government office that everyone can rely on. We need more of that today.

5️⃣ I never give up. I ran for Congress in 2018 and I lost, but I did not give up, I just ran again and then was the only Democratic to flip a seat in 2020. Republicans are trying to defeat us and undo all the progress we have made over the last two years, but we will not be discouraged.
